Kessler and Jayne 2017

Florida families with children who are blind or visually impaired and other residents with disabilities can build savings and keep their federal benefits by opening an ABLE United account – and individuals who open their ABLE account in May 2018 will be automatically entered to win a $250 account contribution.

To be eligible, an individual must be a Florida resident and have a qualifying disability, with onset of that disability occurring prior to age 26. Savings accrued in an ABLE United account can be used toward a wide range of qualifying expenses, such as housing, healthcare, education, transportation, employment training, and other basic living expenses.

Similar to a Roth IRA or a 529 college savings plan, an ABLE United account allows individuals to increase their savings through tax-free growth. The individual owns the account, but an authorized person may establish and help oversee the account. Family and friends can be invited to contribute.

There is no minimum contribution to open an account, and enrollment is free. Accounts can be opened online in a process that takes only 15 minutes.

Open an ABLE United account HERE (click the green “open account” button at the top right) by May 31, 2018, and you will be entered to win a $250 contribution to your new ABLE United account.
