International day of persons with disabilities

The annual celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) on 3 December was first established in 1992 by the United Nations . The day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and encourage support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities around the world.

Although it is true that there has never been a better time for people living with disabilities, we have more assistive technology than ever before to enable us to live our lives to the fullest. But there is still so much to be done. How can we bring down the ridiculously high rate of unemployment within the disabled community.  There needs to be more education around disability and this is a big part of why I became known as The Blind Poet. As part of International day of persons with disabilities Meta and Upworthy have chosen to highlight my story as an example of all that’s possible dispute disability.
